Key differences
AI advisor vs passive dashboard
Copilot shows you pretty charts. Ray answers your questions — "should I refinance?", "how long until I'm debt-free?", "can I afford this?" — with real calculations.
Open source and auditable
Ray's code is public. You can verify exactly what it does with your data. Copilot is a closed-source app that syncs to their servers.
Platform independent
Copilot only works on iOS and Mac. Ray runs anywhere you have a terminal — macOS, Linux, Windows.
Free self-hosted option
Copilot costs $13/mo with no free tier. Ray is completely free to self-host, or $10/mo managed — still cheaper than Copilot.

The verdict
Copilot Money is one of the best-designed finance apps on iOS. If you want a beautiful, low-effort way to see your spending on your iPhone, Copilot is excellent. The design quality is genuinely impressive.
Ray is for a different audience. It's a command-line tool that prioritizes AI-powered advice over visual polish. Instead of opening an app to scroll through transactions, you ask Ray a question and get a calculated answer. It also handles things Copilot doesn't — debt payoff simulations, detailed cash flow projections, open-ended financial planning.
The tradeoff is clear: Copilot wins on design, mobile experience, and ease of use. Ray wins on AI capabilities, privacy, cost, and being open source. If you're comfortable in a terminal, Ray gives you more for less.
